DAY 1

Xi'an Arrival

As soon as you land in Xi’an, you will be greeted by your private guide and driver who will take you to the Hanyang Tomb, one of the top 10 things to do in Xi’an according to TripAdvisor. This is the final resting place of Emperor Jingdi, the father of Wudi, who opened the Silk Road in 138 BC. You will learn how the Han Dynasty developed its own distinctive culture after the turbulent times of the Qin Dynasty, and what made it reach its zenith of power and prosperity.

Unlike the crowded Terracotta Army, the Hanyang Tomb is a hidden gem that attracts fewer visitors. You will be amazed by the sight of thousands of small clay warriors, each with a unique facial expression, displayed under a glass walkway. You can walk over them and observe the details of their craftsmanship. Some of them have mysterious smiles on their faces, which contrast with the solemn expressions of the Terracotta Army. You will wonder what secrets they are hiding and what stories they can tell.

After this fascinating tour, you will be driven back to your hotel and have some free time to relax and enjoy the evening. You can ask your guide for some recommendations on where to eat, shop, or explore in Xi’an.

DAY 2

Meet the Terracotta Army and Taste the Muslim Quarter

Get ready for an unforgettable day as you drive for 1½ hours from Xi’an to see the world-famous terracotta warriors. You have seen them in pictures and videos, but nothing compares to seeing them in person. With the help of your guide, you will uncover the secrets behind this ancient army. How did they make thousands of life-sized clay soldiers, each with a different face and posture? How do they preserve them from decay and damage? What colors did they use to paint them and why did they fade away?

After marveling at this wonder of the world, you will head back to the city center where you will visit the Great Mosque, one of the oldest and largest mosques in China. You will admire its unique architecture that blends Islamic and Chinese styles, and learn about the history and culture of the Muslim community in Xi’an.

Next, you will have a chance to explore the Muslim Quarter, a lively area full of shops, stalls, and restaurants. You will be tempted by the aromas and flavors of various dishes and snacks, from traditional ones like lamb skewers, beef noodles, and pita bread soup, to viral ones like ice cream rolls, cheese tea, and spicy hotpot. You can challenge yourself to try something new and exotic, or stick to what you like. Either way, you will have a delicious and fun time.
